BRISBANE Roar coach Ange Postecoglou says his side got caught up in the emotion of a “crazy night” in Saturday's 2-2 draw with nine-man Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Victory were reduced to nine men in the first half of the clash with scores locked at 2-2 and despite the fact Roar dominated possession in the second stanza it ended a deadlock.
“We probably weren't clever enough. It was a weird old night. It was crazy actually. It was a little bit chaotic in the first half and a bit frustrating in the second half,” Postecoglou told reporters.
“There's plenty to work on from there. Credit to them, they fought really hard to get what they needed. From our point of view, it's a hard game to analyse as it was a little bit all over the place.”
Postecoglou said he was frustrated that his side struggled to find the creativity needed to pull apart the defensive-minded Victory.
“We still should be clever enough to unlock that. Credit to them, they fought really, really hard. We just weren't as creative as we could be,” he said.
“We really needed to be a bit more positive. With everything which happened in the first half, we lost our composure and we struggled to regain it.”
Postecoglou added: “The main lesson for us tonight was we lost focus in the first half.
“We lost that composure and got carried away. We let the emotions get carried away. I told the players at half-time to keep a clear head and not get involved.”
