Italy's football chief, Giancarlo Abete, has confirmed his country are still interested in bidding for the 2016 European Championships.
Abete made the announcement a day after Scotland and Wales abandoned plans for a joint bid to host the tournament.
"Italy is interested in hosting this tournament because we cannot pull out of hosting big international events," said the Italian Football Federation president to radio station Rai.
"We must continue to activate ways to give hope to our football. We have time to present our bid before March 9."
Italy missed out on Euro 2012 to Poland and Ukraine but are keen to host the European tournament - something they have not done since 1980.
