Luke Ivanovic made waves by scoring within 10 minutes of his starting debut against Melbourne City this season and soon drew acclaim for his direct style and influx of pace into the Sky Blues' team.

As a result he's become a favourite option for Steve Corica off the bench and has continued to impress across both the league and Asian Champions League.

With Sydney still pressing for a result in both competitions, Ivanovic - still only 18-years-old - may be looking towards a breakout month after signing a new deal.

“I’m over the moon to be able to extend my stay at Sydney FC for one more season after getting my debut towards the end of last year,” he said.

“It’s been an absolute dream come true to pull on the Sky Blue jersey, and I’m really enjoying playing in the A-League after coming through the ranks here in the academy system.

“Steve and the club have shown a lot of faith in me and getting the chance to play half a dozen games and get my first goal for the club has been awesome.

“I really hope that I can continue to play good football for Sydney FC in the coming seasons and repay the faith that they have shown in me.”

Corica praised Ivanovic and highlighted the importance of playing youth, with Ivanovic proving a partial beneficiary of fellow promising youngster Trent Buhagiar's long term ACL injury.

“Luke has come a long way in a short space of time and I’ve been impressed with his progress,” Corica said.

“He’s becoming a valued member of our squad and the boys all really enjoy having him around. It’s always great to be able to give young players an opportunity and Luke has earned his spot.

“He knows that he has to continue to work hard for his spot and I have plenty of faith in him doing this for the rest of this season.”
