Osieck, who took charge of his first Australia game on home turf on Saturday night, was impressed with the football the Socceroos produced and delighted with the progress the side is making with the Asian Cup in mind.

"When we get it together, defensively we're organised and we play very courageously - like we did today at times - than I'm pretty confident that it (the 2011 Asian Cup) is going to be a good tournament for us," Osieck said.

Kewell, who played 87 minutes of the game, said 'it is all positive' looking ahead for the Socceroos under Osieck.

"It's a different technique we're playing, it's a different attitude we have and I think it is all positive," he said.

"Hopefully we can grow on this result, look forward to the November friendlies and then the big one in January."

Kewell continued: "It's good to get back to getting confidence into the team again. I thought we saw that tonight, we worked hard, we created a lot of chances especially from set pieces. We were just unlucky, their keeper had a good game."

Stand-in skipper Mark Schwarzer was rapt with Australia's performance against a team ranked 17th in the world and added the side was beginning to find its way under Osieck.

"I think the boys did very, very well," he said. "We were playing against a very, very good side."

"I think we're very new into the new manager's regime and I think the guys are starting to gel together, push forward and play some attractive football.

"Ultimately what is important is getting the result and tonight was fantastic."

Schwarzer continued: "What always happens when a new manager comes in is he brings his enthusiasm. The manager is very energetic and enthusiastic and I think he brings that across to the players."

Goalscorer David Carney added it was a good night for the Socceroos.

"Overall I thought we deserved the win," he said. "We looked really positive."

Carney continued about his winning goal: "I just hit it really, it got a bit of swerve on it, fooled the keeper a bit and it went in."

Osieck added he was happy with the performance of makeshift central defensive pairing Jon McKain and Jade North who helped keep a clean sheet.

"I think they did very well, in particular Jade who had a decent game and he looked very solid."
