Postecoglou believes there is no easy way to turn things around, stressing hard work and a bit of desperation will be keys to success.

"It's going to be that sort of season for us where the free-flowing, attacking, creative stuff hopefully will come at the end but in the meantime we've just got to scrape, fight and be desperate in everything we do," he said.

"We're getting there. We're making baby steps, as they say, but we've really got to go to the next level.

"For us, that would mean going to a place like Adelaide and getting a result. You won't go to Adelaide and get a result unless you work hard."

Concentration at the back will also be important, with Postecoglou determined to see his first clean sheet at the club.

Although Brisbane have stemmed the flow of goals in the past two matches, the coach said the manner in which Newcastle scored on Friday showed there was still work to do.

"We've got to become a harder team to beat and to stop goals like that so we can turn our season around," he said.

"If you look the statistics, we've lost more games than anyone else and conceded more goals than anyone else. That's what we've got to stop.

"Every goal and every point is going to be important right to the end."

However, Postecoglou remains confident the team can turn their form around and enjoy a strong second-half of the season.

"I expect the last half-dozen games to be coming home with a wet sail," he added.

"We've just got to stay in touch with the teams above us and make sure that when we get all our players back fit, healthy and we've got competition for places, they're in a good position to capitalise."
