Central Coast goalkeeper Paul Izzo says the Mariners are playing well and are not getting the credit their performances deserve.
The Mariners went down 1-0 to Phoenix on Saturday and have won just two games this season. They anchor the bottom of the competition with the same amount of points as ninth-placed Adelaide United.
But Izzo believes their positive displays have not been reflected by their position on the ladder.
"The way we've been playing, you hear all this talk about other teams how they're so unlucky not to get points," he said.
"It comes to our games and we dominate games, and I think we lack some credit. But that's OK, we'll keep flying under the radar. We know that we're playing well and hopefully soon the results will start to come our way and start to turn heads."
Izzo feels the Mariners are a much-improved outfit compared to the previous season.
“You can’t compare from this season to last season," the keeper said.
"We're competitive, we’re pushing teams to the end. You look at the games we’ve lost and it’s come down to our own mistakes. I don’t think teams are dominating us and making us looks silly for 90 minutes, I think it’s just ourselves making us look silly at times with some errors.
“I think teams respect us a lot more now because teams drop off against us, they don’t want to press us because we’ve got that ability to play now. I think we're definitely better than last year."
Izzo joined Central Coast in 2015 from Adelaide United. The 22-year old is off contract at the end of this season and says he wants to stay at Gosford.
"Yeah of course," he said.
"It's great here. The club's fantastic. We're moving forward, we're not taking steps backwards with the way we're going about our business. Everyone that's coming off contract wants to be a part of this place. We'll just finish off the season and see what happens."
