With North retiring from football last season Aboriginal representation in the A-League is at less than 1%.

The former Brisbane Roar star strongly believes that more must be done to increase Indigenous participation.

“FFA have to do a lot more,” he said.

“To me their involvement in Indigenous football hasn’t been good enough when it comes to supporting the first Australians who play this game.

“Obviously they have a focus on the A-League and W-League but there is so much opportunity to develop players, but we are losing special talents to the other codes.

“If you look at Rugby League and AFL they have a lot of Indigenous programs and they do such a great job.

“I’ve always known that the Indigenous kids of today suit football better than the other codes.

“I have seen it with my own eyes being Indigenous myself and during the last couple of years of running my clinics.”

“If the FFA aren’t going to do it, then the Indigenous community needs to do these tournaments ourselves and make it successful to show there is real raw talent out there.”

The National Indigenous Football Championships Committee will be hosting the 3rd Annual Indigenous Championships in South Nowra 1st -3rd November 2018.
