Jair has joined the Jets on a one-year deal from Chinese club Yanbian Funde.

The 30-year-old has spent the past seven years playing in Korea, Japan, Dubai and China.

Able to play across the forward line and on the left wing, Jair is expected to replace the suspended target man Roy O'Donovan up front.

"I don't have a preference because the last four, five seasons I have played as winger, second striker and also with a striker," he said.

"It doesn’t matter for me. Whereever the head coach wants to put me, I will try my best. I am an attacker. I love to find the goals. I'm so glad to receive this chance and hopefully to give my best here."

Jair has moved to Newcastle with his wife and two young daughters.

The Brazilian admitted it was very important he was able to bring his family with him to Australia.

"In my last experience in China, my family stayed in Brazil," he said.

"I was alone. It was so difficult for me. But here they come and arrive with me. I am so happy. I think Australia will help me improve in my life as a father, as a player and as a personality."

Jair has not played since May but is confident he will be ready for the start of the A-League season next month.

"I had two months without games, but we have time, six weeks before the season," he said.

"I will be 100%."
