Melbourne City captain Michael Jakobsen has been ruled out of Friday night's semi-final away to Newcastle Jets due to a quad injury.
City boss Warren Joyce confirmed the news on Thursday, after Jakobsen failed to train at City Football Academy earlier in the day.
Jakobsen has missed City's past two matches due to the injury, having started every game this season previously.
"He'll not be travelling," Joyce said.
"It's frustrating and disappointing for us. It's frustrating for the lad because he's had such a good season.
"He's played nearly every minute of every game. He's been asked to play several different positions and sacrificed himself for the team throughout the season and done most of the training so it's frustrating for him."
Jakobsen was restricted to running with the physiotherapists on Thursday, with no ballwork included.
Joyce said he had tried to join the main training session earlier in the week but failed to convince.
"He tried earlier in the week and now he needs to get right," Joyce said.
"We've tried not to aggravate it since the start of the week. He had a go at the start of the week and got through a large chunk of the session.
"It's certain things which break him down. Kicking longer balls gives him problems so you can't afford to start and know one kick and he's struggling.
"That's the way it's been for 10 days."
