Melbourne City captain Michael Jakobsen says performances need to improve despite taking maximum points so far this season.
City find themselves topping the table so far after four straight wins and have only conceded one goal in those four games.
City are coming off a 2-0 away win over Adelaide United and return to take on the reigning champions Sydney FC at home on Friday night.
Jakobsen however said it was still early days.
“The last two games I don’t feel like we’ve performed well but we’ve got the three points so we have to be happy with that,” Jakobsen said on Tuesday.
“It’s a good start, we know we can still improve a lot in our game. We’ve got the victories so far this season and we need to keep on going.
“The focus has been more on the defensive part and keeping a clean sheet. We’re fighting not to concede goals, so we’re very well balanced in the defensive part.
“We probably need to improve offensively, we haven’t been good enough there and we want to improve that as well.”
Sydney are coming off a record-breaking A-League Championship triumph, however had the FFA Cup stolen from City in 2016.
The Sky Blues are second on the table after drawing 2-2 in Round 3’s Sydney Derby and Jakobsen this Friday’s clash as the biggest of the season.
“I think now the most difficult match will be Sydney, we need to be very sharp to get all the three points,” he said.
“They’re well organised, offensively they’re strong. Last year, defensively they were very good and they have a quality.
“If we can match their levels, I’m sure we have a good chance to win. If we’re not there and we’re not performing well then it’s going to be a hard test.”
