James Troisi has targeted regular games at Melbourne Victory as he continues to strive for an eventual breakthrough at Juventus.

The 25-year-old Australian attacker has signed a one-season loan deal with Victory in an attempt to reignite his career, which stagnated at Serie A outfit Atalanta last season.

In the 2012-13 campaign, Troisi only managed six league appearances for Atalanta, who co-own his contract with Italian giants Juventus, and the Adelaide-born forward wants to emulate Victory team-mate Mark Milligan and stake a claim for a starting berth with the Socceroos through regular appearances in the A-League.

"'Millsy' (Milligan) is making a good mark in his position," Troisi told the Herald Sun.

"He was in my shoes a few years ago, he wasn't playing regularly, he came here and it’s done wonders for him."

Troisi also touched on the stratospheric rise of two ex-Victory strikers, who also underline what good A-League form can do for a player's career.

"You look at Robbie Kruse and Marco Rojas, they've gone from here straight to Europe and done really well," Troisi said.

"So it's (the A-League) improving and Europe now sees it as a decent league."

Now plying their trade with Stuttgart and Leverkusen respectively, Rojas and Kruse marked stellar seasons at Victory with moves to Germany, and cemented spots in the starting 11 of their respective national squads.

For Troisi, succeeding in a stint with Victory will be vital for his prospects of earning a spot in Juventus' squad.

"For me it's about playing regularly and getting my football back on track and this is a good opportunity," Troisi said.

Troisi also rejected more lucrative offers from the Middle East as he continues to aim for a career in the top football leagues of Europe.

"At this stage in (my) career money's not the most important thing," the former Newcastle United youth player said.

The most important thing for Troisi right now is playing time and he will have a chance to do so against Adelaide United on Wednesday in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

That match, plus Victory's intra-club game on Friday, will be crucial for Troisi's match fitness ahead of Victory's Round 1 derby clash against Melbourne Heart on October 12, which he could start due to Kosta Barbarouses' likely unavailability with the New Zealand national team.

"My match fitness isn't going to be 100 per cent but I've been training for a few months now so there’s no reason why I can’t do a job," Troisi said.
