Aaron Mooy and Daniel Arzani failed to make the tournament due to injury, while Mathew Leckie arrived in camp with a hamstring problem that could see him miss the whole Asian Cup.

Also this week Martin Boyle was sent back to Scotland after a knee injury picked up against Oman ruled him out permanently.

Giannou has arrived from Cyprus as Boyle's replacement.

If there is any concern about the succession of injuries, Maclaren wasn't showing it. The Hibernian forward is happy with the depth of players available to coach Graham Arnold.

"There's depth in the whole of Australia," he said.

"Apo's a great striker, he's proven that. He's only going to make our squad better and add to the striking power that we got."

The Socceroos take on Jordan in their tournament opener this Sunday.

Maclaren believes the green and gold is in great shape ahead of the crucial match.

"Why wouldn't we be in a great space? A great win against Oman," he said.

"Obviously the boys are confident."

The Socceroos were put through their paces in a hard, high-tempo training session at the Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium on Thursday.

"It was nice and intense," Maclaren.

"Just embedding the way we want to play - scoring goals but obviously being sure at the back."
