Holland striker Vennegoor of Hesselink has scored in only one match this season and he and fellow forward Georgios Samaras have been blamed for the Hoops' inconsistent run of form.

But the 30-year-old is certain one goal will be enough to help him rediscover the golden touch that saw him net 20 times last season.

He said in the Evening Times: "You know how it is in football, and one moment in one game can change a lot of things. Every negative thing has a positive. It has to change round.

"But, actually it doesn't matter if I score in the final. If someone else scores and we win then I will also be really happy with that.

"We just have to win the game. It doesn't matter how we win it, we just have to win it."

Vennegoor of Hesselink knows his recent performances mean he is not guaranteed to start against Rangers on Sunday and he admits his barren run is affecting him.

"Of course it is in the back of your mind," he said. "I'd be lying if I said I felt great. You are a striker and you want to score goals. It's a thing you want to do, and people look at that.

"If it doesn't happen then you have to be important for the team and give assists. That's what you try to do and then eventually the goal comes by itself.

"But I'd be lying if I said I felt great and that I'm buzzing because I didn't score a goal. It keeps you busy, but it's not like it's taking over my whole life."

Vennegoor of Hesselink is also playing for his Celtic future, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Talks over a 12-month extension began earlier this season but the striker has been left in limbo since.

He told Celtic TV: "It's very quiet now and we have to come together in a couple of weeks. I have to talk to some people at the club and see how it goes.

"I'm feeling great at this club, except for scoring a few goals. I enjoy it here, I enjoy life in Scotland and I enjoy the club really much.

"It's a privilege for me to play for this club and I'd love to stay here."
