Injured Australia skipper Mile Jedinak is set to return from a groin injury for Aston Villa on Saturday in a boost for the Socceroos ahead of next month's 2018 World Cup play-offs.
The 33-year-old midfielder has been out of action since undergoing groin surgery in the off-season.
The surgery forced Jedinak to miss Australia's Confederations Cup campaign, as well as last week's crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand.
Villa host Brentford in the English Championship on Saturday (midnight), with Villans boss Steve Bruce hinting the Australian is close to a return.
"Jedinak is nearly there in that he’s trained now for the past two weeks," Bruce said.
“Typical Jedinak, he wants to be involved straight away."
Australia are due to play Syria in two World Cup play-offs on October 5 and 10.
