The 32-year-old midfielder hasn’t travelled for English club Aston Villa’s pre-season camp in Portugal in light of the operation.

Jedinak battled the groin complaint throughout the second half of the 2016-17 season and was later ruled out of the Confederations Cup due to the issue.

Villa boss Steve Bruce said: "Big Mile has had a groin operation so we're waiting on him. He's not here in Portugal.”

It remains unclear how long the surgery will rule Jedinak out of action, although Bruce indicated he was hopeful he'd be around training next week.

Jedinak had a major impact at Villa last season, with the side enjoying positive results when he was in the starting XI.

The Australia international made 34 appearances in all competitions last term for the Villans.
