The Socceroos will need to beat Peru in their final game in Sochi and hope that France defeat Denmark.

Then it will come down to goal difference to see who goes through the round of 16 in second spot.

Jedinak was upbeat after the draw in Samara.

"Obviously we got a result," he said.

"We probably wanted the three points, maybe we deserved that but we take the point and look forward to the next game. We still have a chance. We’re still in with a sniff. No one can say anything but that. We’re still in with a chance and we have to keep believing."

Australia went behind in the sixth minute after a stunning goal from Christian Eriksen.

The Socceroos responded and Jedinak converted a penalty after a handball in the box.

The midfielder admitted Eriksen's goal was "unfortunate".

"We let ourselves down, but from that point on I don’t think he had a sniff," Jedinak said.

"So make what you want of that – he scored a great goal. After that it was only us really. We imposed ourselves really well.

"You just felt we had a foothold on the game and maybe with a little bit of luck we might have got that second and the all-important goal, but it wasn’t meant to be. We have to move forward now and prepare for what lies ahead."

Australia might be sitting on four points after two games, if not for a controversial penalty call against them in Kazan.

Jedinak said it is frustrating but the Socceroos "have to put those frustrations aside".

"You don’t put in two performances like that if you're frustrated," he said.

"You just have to believe, and that’s what we’re doing. We have belief in what we’re doing and believing in the structure and the training. It will be the same going forward and hopefully that will get us through."
