Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak says comparing Australia’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with previous generations' is “unfair”.
Jedinak, 32, has been involved with the Australia set-up since 2008, meaning he’s played his part in three World Cup qualifying efforts.
The Aston Villa man said comparing them with the current campaign was “unfair” and brushed off any negative connotations emanating from fans and the media.

“Regarding the negativity you’re talking about, I’m not sure as I don’t read all that,” Jedinak said.
“It’s a qualification campaign nonetheless, obviously it’s a different group, different manager and things are going to be different. You don’t get the same teams.
“No matter what, we’re playing the most games to get to a World Cup. That in itself is quite different.

“There’s a number of differences,' he said. "The main objective is we want to get there. To start comparing what’s gone before is a little bit unfair.
“What doesn’t change is the focus every time we’re in camp.”
Meanwhile, Aston Villa man Jedinak has seen the emergence of Aaron Mooy and Jackson Irvine first hand by playing against them in England’s Championship.
Mooy was Huddersfield’s player of the season as they earned promotion to the Premier League, while Irvine won unheralded Burton Albion’s top gong as they surprisingly avoided relegation.

However, the bearded midfielder is more excited by what he’s seen in training this week.
“I’ve played against them first hand and have followed them a little bit closer,” Jedinak said.
“That’s all great, but it’s not until you get into camp you see the enthusiasm and the qualities and how we’re going to use that to our advantage.
“Working with them day-in day-out is when you start to get very excited.”
