The Socceroos face Oman tonight at 11pm (AEST) in Graham Arnold and the lads' last hit-out before their Asian Cup campaign kicks off January 6 against Jordan.

But if you've been paying attention, it feels like it's already well underway. We've already had enough stoushes with Scots and injuries to key stars for half a tournament, so now James Jeggo - included at the misfortune of Aaron Mooy - just wants to focus on the football.

“The Oman game is a big game - for not just the team but for the individuals,” Jeggo told socceroos.com.au

“I think, as a team, it’s a chance for us to go out there and make a statement and win the game and really set ourselves up going into the first game.

“Arnie always speaks about [how] every game we should be improving, we should be getting better and tomorrow is the next chance to do that."

Jeggo's inclusion is just desserts for plying his trade effectively for one of Austria's grand old clubs, Austria Wien, which currently sits fifth in the Bundesliga.

After winning the domestic cup last season with Sturm Graz, the 26-year-old midfielder has languished on the periphery of several Socceroos squads without making a substantive impact.

But given Arnold's preference for overseas-based midfielders (Mustafa Amini and Jeggo only have five caps between them, but both are included in a scarse five man midfield), Jeggo's confident he'll be given a chance to show his wares against the 82nd ranked Al Ahmar.

“It’s a chance for every player to go out there and give ‘Arnie’ a headache and [be] trying to push your way into the starting eleven and that’s something you should be doing every day in training.

“The games are just another opportunity to do that.

“You’re always disappointed when you’re not in the initial 23 but I knew that I was on standby and I knew that there was a chance that ‘Azza’ might not make it and that there was a good chance that I’d come in if that was the case.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here now.”
