Jelavic suffered a setback ahead of a date with Spain at Euro 2012 on Monday, sustaining a fever and missing training on Saturday as a result.

But speaking ahead of Croatia's final group game, the Everton striker says playing for a draw is a dangerous tactic, and thinks the quality of his team can go out and get a good result against the reigning world and European champions.

"We have actually never played against Spain but we always watch them on TV, it is similar with Barcelona," he said.

"We need to be careful we expect a tough game. I think we have a good team as well, we expect a good game and we expect a good result for us.

"We have got to play the game where we want to win, so if you play and you go onto the pitch and say you want to draw, a draw is not enough.

"You need to play for the points but then maybe a draw will be enough. Like always you want three points.

"I just hope I am confident that we will go through to the next round. I don't care if it is a draw with a 2-2, or a 1-1 or 3-3. That is an Italian problem, we don't care.

The 26-year-old also said he was impressed with Andy Carroll's goal against Sweden and has backed Mario Gomez to win the golden boot.

"I saw all the games I saw many good qualities, I saw the strikers," Jelavic told reporters.

"Especially Andy Carroll's goal yesterday was brilliant, it was a top header.

"Obviously Mario Gomez with three goals is the favourite for me for the golden boot. I am confident as well, I have scored only one so far so we will see."

Jelavic is Croatia's second-most prolific player at Euro 2012 with one goal from two games.
