AFC Champions League holders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors continued their woeful midweek form as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Daegu FC in the K-League Hauzen Cup on Wednesday.
Jeoenbuk coach Choi Kang-hee opted to rest a number of his big names including Yeom Ki-hun, Ze Carlo and Stevica Ristic for the clash but the visitors could have gone ahead just before the hour mark when striker Kim Dong-hyun shot wide after being given a clear opportunity just inside the Daegu box.
Jeonbuk would rue that miss with 16 minutes remaining as Daegu's Brazilian striker Luciano picked up a long clearance on the edge of the Jeonbuk penalty area and fired the ball into the left side of the net, giving the hosts a victory that keeps them at the top of Group A.
Jeonbuk are bottom of the group with four points from five games, a point behind Pohang Steelers who crashed to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of in-form Incheon United, who are second in the group, a point behind Daegu.
In the group's other game Jeju United and Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i drew 0-0.
FC Seoul tightened their grip on Group B, moving six points clear at the top after goals from Jung Jo-gook and Dudu gave the capital outfit a 2-1 win over Busan I'Park.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings slipped to last place after a 1-0 defeat at Gyeongnam FC while Daejeon Citizen picked up their first win of the competition by overcoming second-placed Gwangju Sangmu 1-0.
