The former Perth Glory attacking ace, now with Bundesliga outfit Mainz has spent much of his game time out on the wing since moving to Germany in 2010.

Lining up for his 9th cap for the green and gold the 25-year-old said it would be good to find the back of the net although a confidence-boosting victory ahead of the final World Cup qualifiers remained the priority.

“Obviously it would be great to score a goal but most importantly if the team wins that’s most important for me,” Rukavytsya said.

“I can’t really concentrate about scoring goals, I have to concentrate on playing my game and I’m sure the goals will come.

“(Wednesday) will be a tough game – when we play Korea before they’ve always been tough games. But it’s good to play a friendly like this and it gives us a good preparation for the qualifiers.

“It will be a tough match but I’m sure we’ll be up for it and we’ll get a good result.”

Socceroos head coach Holger Osieck has pulled together a more youthful squad for the clash against the Asian football powerhouse who will be fielding predominantly K-League players.

Rukavytsya said he was tired after a long flight from Germany but looking forward to shaking off the jet-lag and putting in a good performance for the green and gold.

On the domestic front, his club Mainz is well-placed at seventh on the Bundesliga table and notched up a home win on the weekend with the Aussie playing 58 minutes. And he is in no doubt the move to Germany has taken his game to another level.

“Obviously I’ve been paying as a striker my whole life and when I came to (Hertha) Berlin I sort of had to adjust to playing on the wing but it’s all attacking so it’s sort of similar to the striking position,” Rukavytsya said.

“And then I moved to Mainz and I’ve been playing a few games as a striker as well, and the game on the weekend I played on the wing. It’s been nice, I now have a bit of variety in my game.”

Osieck was forced to give a late call-up to Robbie Cornthwaite who plays his domestic football in the K-League with Chunnam Dragons after Matt McKay and Adam Sarota joined Luke Wilkshire on the Socceroo casualty list after picking up injuries at the weekend.

Osieck's already small squad has now been cut further and is just 17-strong for the match.

The Socceroos currently sit in second place in their World Cup qualifying group and return to Australia next year for a clash against Oman on March 26, with matches still to play against Japan (away) Jordan (home) and Iraq (home).

Korea and Australia are neck and neck in the latest FIFA rankings, with Korea in 32nd place and Australia now in 33rd. Kick off for the international friendly in Korea is at 9pm (AEDT).
