Nigel Boogard is the latest casualty after injuring his ankle while clashing with Fernando Brandan late in the second half of the Jets' 2-1 loss to Melbourne City.

Ben Kennedy (Achilles), Daniel Mullen (knee), Ben Kantarovski (knee), Daniel Alessi (knee) and Lachlan Jackson (ankle) are also unavailable.

Jones said he has no choince but to play his troops out of position to compensate for his losses.

“It’ll just be inexperienced defenders having come and do a job, (Nicholas) Cowburn can come in play as centre-back and it’s not my preferred option but that’s what we’ve got left,” Jones said.

“We’ve got people who don’t normally play in those positions having to play there, young Johnny Koutroumbis is more of a six than a centre-back and we just have to do those things because we’re short on numbers. It is what it is and we just have to do the best we can with what we’ve got.

“At the moment yes (injuries are the most frustrating aspect), if we were sound defensively, you saw when we’ve not conceded in the first half of football, we’ve gone on and done well.

“(It’s) disappointing to concede goals and obviously not taking our opportunities and I thought some of our opportunities were well created and probably harder to miss.”

But in spite of the injury losses, Jones remains positive after the Jets almost snatched an equaliser to draw against City with Danish striker Morten Nordstrand missing from point blank range.

“It’s a massive thing (Nordstrand miss), if we scored in the first three minutes then that changes the confidence of our team and that changes the dynamic of the game,” he said.

“We pressed alright in the first half, we got into good areas and turned the ball over and didn’t take the opportunity for that first goal.

“I think we created clear opportunities, we turned the ball over when we shouldn’t have and every time we kept the ball for more than four passes we could’ve scored, even with nine men we could’ve scored.”
