NEWCASTLE Jets have been hit with another blow after the FFA match review panel banned both Joel Griffiths and Mark Milligan for two matches each.
Griffiths was red-carded after he petulantly swung out and kicked Karl Dodd after losing the ball in the 2-0 defeat against Wellington Phoenix at the weekend.
Team-mate Milligan also saw red after he was judged to have dangerously lunged into a two-footed tackle later in the game.
Today the match review panel ordered a mandatory minimum two match ban for both.
Sydney midfielder Terry McFlynn was banned for one match after he was sent off for back chatting the ref while injured and awaiting substitution. However McFlynn is sidelined for six weeks and will be unaffected by the suspension.
The panel also investigated Karl Dodd's reaction to the Griffiths kick - where the Phoenix defender appeared to retaliate with a kick of his own - but ruled that the ref had seen the incident and no further action was necessary.
An FFA statement added: "The independent Match Review Panel comprising Barry Such (Chairman), Alan Davidson and Simon Micallef convened this afternoon to consider three red card offences from Round 12 of the Hyundai A-League.
"• Terry McFlynn (Sydney FC) was issued with an R6 red card for "use of offensive, insulting or abusive language against a match official." The Match Review Panel imposed a sanction of one (1) match, which is the minimum sanction for this offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations.
"• Joel Griffiths (Newcastle Jets) was issued with an R2 red card for 'violent conduct when not challenging for the ball'. The Match Review Panel proposed a sanction of two (2) matches, which is the minimum sanction for this offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations.
"• Mark Milligan (Newcastle Jets) was issued with an R3 red card for "serious foul play". The Match Review Panel first considered a challenge to the red card made by Milligan. The challenge was dismissed. The Match Review Panel proposed a sanction of two (2) matches, which is the minimum sanction for this offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations."
It added: "The Match Review Panel also considered the reaction by Karl Dodd (Wellington Phoenix) to the offence committed by Joel Griffiths.
"The Match Review Panel accepted that, as the matter did not escape the attention of the referee, it had no jurisdiction to intervene."
