Panama international Abdiel Arroyo might not be the Newcastle Jets' only recruit from Central and South America this season.
Arroyo has signed for the Jets and is expected to land in the Hunter in August.
The 25-year-old forward has 45 caps for his country and has played professionaly in Panama, Croatia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Uruguay and Portugal.
But FTBL understands Newcastle are looking at other players from the Americas to boost their A-League squad.
With the club trimming its budget, they are on the hunt for cheap talent from South and Central America.
The Jets have had a number of Latino players on their books in recent seasons including Brazilian striker Jair, Venezuelan winger Ronald Vargas and Argentine attacker Patricio Rodriguez.
For 2019/2020 Newcastle currently has only 20 players signed in its first-team squad, which includes three scholarship places.
The club is only using two of its five visa spots and last week signed Western Sydney forward Nick Fitzgerald.
