The Jets dominated the opening 40 minutes of the clash and took the lead through Nabbout's goal, before City responded with a Ross McCormack penalty and Manny Muscat volley.

Newcastle were without Roy O'Donovan, Ronald Vargas, Wayne Brown, Jack Duncan and Daniel Georgievski due to injury for the clash.

"I don't think so," Nabbout told Fox Sports when asked if the injury list was to blame.

"I think the players that came in did a job for us. Everyone knows the gameplan. We train day-in day-out on it.

"I think we defended a bit too deep in the second half and gave away two sloppy goals."

The Jets had 54 per cent of possession and had more shots on goal, 14 to six, with eight shots on target to three.

"It's a bitter pill to swallow," Nabbout said.

"I thought we had the better of the chances the whole game. we dominated possession and we got in behind.

"We kept posession in their half most of the game. to come away with nothing is very disappointing."

Nabbout's goal was his fourth for the campaign, as he fills in for the injured O'Donovan up front.

"I'm just trying to do my job for the team," he said.

"I've been told to do my job for the team until Roy comes back. I'd trade that goal for a win."
