Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix were both victorious in pre-season friendly action over Western Sydney Wanderers and Central Coast Mariners respectively on Saturday.
Andrew Hoole opened the scoring for the Jets in Cessnock with a strike from outside the area, before Andrew Nabbout doubled the advantage later in the first half.
The Jets finished the game with a man less after Jason Hoffman was shown a straight red card for aggression towards a Wanderers player.
The hit-out was also the Jets' first under new head coach Mark Jones.
In Nelson, Wellington got the better of the Mariners in a tight affair.
Kosta Barbarouses made it 1-0 to Wellington via a spot-kick in the first half, before his former Melbourne Victory team-mate Connor Pain equalised for the Mariners.
However, Jacques Faty was sent off for the Mariners before the end of the first half, with Roy Krishna then dealing the hammer blow four minutes into the second period.
Meanwhile, Brisbane Roar saw off a NPL Queensland U23 select side 3-1.
Jamie Maclaren found the net twice for John Aloisi's men, while Thomas Broich was the other goalscorer for the Roar.
