With Brisbane Roar now confirmed in the A-League finals, there is one spot left in the six.

The full strength Jets will aim to win tonight and hope other results go their way in order for them to squeeze into the six from eighth spot when they take on the A-League juggernaut the Wanderers at Hunter Stadium this afternoon.

Tony Popovic’s men have their own mission too as a Premiership looms tantalizingly close with just one point required.

“You have to be very disciplined. They are very good on the counter. If you don’t have your defence right you can really get hurt,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com after Thursday's training.

“And the other part is you have to be ruthless up the other end and take your opportunities when they come. And for us that’s paramount.”

Aside from team discipline, van Egmnd - known as Dutchy - added another factor likely to determine the outcome of the game.

“If you can score first I think it’s a huge, huge chance of winning a game against a team like that, otherwise you keep on pressing for that goal and that’s actually what they want.

"You leave yourself a little bit open at the back and they’ve got good players up front like Bridgey [Mark Bridge] and [Youssouf] Hersi who can really capitalise.”

A fixture reshuffle to accommodate Wellington Phoenix meant the Jets had last weekend off, which  former AIS and A-League championship winning coach van Egmond believed was a positive at this time of the season.

The Jets played a low-key intra-club game last Thursday instead. The match was played over three thirds and it also allowed Van Egmond to work on strategies specific to the Wanderers and maximised the club's weekend off..

“It’s a definite benefit right now. If it happened earlier in the year maybe it would’ve been not as good," he said.

“Now we can get over some bumps and bruises and really focus on this game and work on some things we need to do for this game in particular.”

Jets officials are confident of a crowd of around 18,000-20,000 for today's Good Friday clash.
