THE Joeys are through to the quarter-finals of the AFC Under 16 Championship in Tashkent after a 2-1 win over China.
Victory guarantees Australia top spot of the group regardless of the result in the next game against Turkmenistan.
Kamal Ibrahim scored the decisive goal five minutes in to the second half with a cracking strike from just outside the penalty area.
Jared Lum scored Australia’s other goal with a 15th minute spot-kick.
However Brendan Hamill and Eli Babal are now concerns due to injury and illness respectively.
Coach Martyn Crook told www.footballaustralia.com.au: "We are delighted to come through with three points against a quality opposition, it was a battle. Our goal was to get through to the quarter-finals and we have done that so that is excellent.”
“This was a tough match and the first half was played at a high tempo. The Chinese suffered from this especially once we scored the second goal as they were out on their feet. Our boys did well considering all substitutions were early in the match and all due to injury or illness.”
