THE Joeys bid to qualify for the 2009 FIFA Under 17 World Cup is off to a great start after the youngsters defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1 in their opening game of the AFC Under 16 Championship in Tashkent.
A double by Stephen Domenici and one from Brendan Hamill had Australia in control, before Saudi Arabia grabbed a late consolation goal.
Coach Martyn Crook told www.footballaustralia.com.au: "It's important to get off to a good start in any tournament, especially against good opposition. It’s a great result."
