The Everton striker scored the injury-time winner to send Arsenal back to London on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line.

And the £8.6 million man, tipped to partner Wayne Rooney next weekend in the Euro 2008 qualifier in Isreal, is desperate to make his first competitive start for his country.

Johnson said: "It is great for confidence for me now that we are meeting up for England on Tuesday.

"I am really buzzing now, not just because it is England next but because I have scored again and Everton are going so well. I'm looking forward to England, I just hope I get the nod to play."

Johnson certainly had Everton, and Goodison Park boss David Moyes, buzzing as his late strike helped the Scot celebrate his fifth year in charge with another famous scalp.

Moyes said: "It was terrific for us to score like that in the last minute to send the fans away happy.

"It was a big win for us, that is four points we have taken from Arsenal this season and we have done that also to Liverpool, so we are moving in the right direction.

"We are well organised, disciplined, and we know when we play against the top sides we have to concentrate.

"We are trying to improve our skill, our footballing side, and we are doing that."

Moyes also backed Johnson's England claims.

He said: "Andy is definitely up to the task of playing for England. If England have got the players who can put him into the box, he will get through and score.

"He is always a threat, always on the shoulder of the last defender and he is always likely to get in behind a defence with his pace."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, whose Gunners side failed to take a firm grip on third spot in the league, said: "We are a bit jaded physically, and we did not make the most of our opportunities. The final ball was not good enough, even though we battled well to the end.

"The spirit was excellent, but we didn't create enough. The conditions were not good, but they were the same for everyone.

"We are not guaranteed to be in the top four and we want to be in there, we have a difficult programme and must not fail to be in that top four.

"It is very frustrating not being able to make the most of our chances when we play well. This month, mentally, has been very hard for us."

Things are unlikely to get any easier soon with Wenger also confirming that teenager Theo Walcott will not play again this season.

Wenger said: "Walcott's season is over. He will have surgery on Tuesday. The medical advice is to do it now.

"He was doing well until he damaged his shoulder, now he is only 50% of what he was before.

"You can see that now. He was on for only 10 minutes and his shoulder popped out, you cannot play football like that."
