AJAX manager Martin Jol is hoping to tie up a deal for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Demy de Zeeuw in the next few days.
De Zeeuw has made it clear he wants to join the Amsterdam giants but Eredivisie champions AZ rejected Ajax's first offer of four million euros.
Jol is expected to return with an improved bid and hopes to wrap up the transfer quickly.
"We have said that we want to sign De Zeeuw, we are willing to spend quite a lot of money and I hope that we will have the green light next week," the former Hamburg and Tottenham boss told Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld.
De Zeeuw was left out of AZ's pre-season defeat to Hamburg on Wednesday due to a knee injury.
