The Perth-born 28-year-old played a crucial part in Boro's 2-0 win at Plymouth, saving a penalty and producing a late save in the win.

Manager Gordon Strachan gave Jones a surprise recall in a 1-1 draw at home to Reading in mid-March and he has conceded only twice in four appearances since.

The Socceroos World Cup hopeful says he has always been committed to the club.

"I never said I wanted to leave. I've got plenty of time left on my contract and I've got no issues about staying," Jones told the Evening Gazette.

He has had to be patient at the Riverside since joining the club's youth set up in 2000.

Socceroos number one Mark Schwarzer was first choice for Middlesbrough until he joined Fulham in the summer of 2008.

Injury struck him down at the start of this season, but he is back in favour.

"I always just wanted to play and the gaffer and the coaches know that," said Jones. "I get my head down and work but at the same time I'm not happy if I'm not playing."

The win over Plymouth moved Boro within six points of a promotion play-off place.

Jones added: "Obviously I had a disappointing time but now I'm definitely happy to be back - hoping to see the season out and get the right results."
