Jones, who enjoyed a career-best 2016-17 season with Feyenoord, saved Vitesse's first two spotkicks in the penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

The 35-year-old dived low to his right to thwart Tim Matavz first up, before denying Milot Rashica high to his right.

The four-time Socceroo will be Feyenoord's number one this season, with fellow keeper Kenneth Vermeer confirmed out for two months earlier this week with a hand injury.

Jones made 32 appearances last season as Feyenoord claimed a breakthrough Eredivisie title.

Feyenoord boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst was thrilled to win more silverware in the Super Cup.Β

”It’s always special to win something with Feyenoord and tonight is our 3rd trophy in 15 months. I am happy for the players and the club," van Bronckhorst said.

”We put a lot of energy into the match especially the first 25 minutes and we hoped to put the game to bed within that time . After that I thought we became careless in ball possession where Vitesse Arnhem managed to get back into the game at 1-1.

”We are all happy that we have won another trophy tonight. In the last three seasons we have won three trophies and we are delighted with that.”
