One of the few remaining members of the inaugural squad, the 32-year-old has made 46 appearances in the orange of Roar and found the net three times last season.

Signing off on terms today, McCloughan hinted at the possibility that this may be his last professional contract and that he never wanted to spend it at any other club.

“I’m really happy to get it sorted; it’s taken a little while but it’s good to get it organised,” said McCloughan.

“I think this new deal will probably take me to the end of my career and I’m really happy to be staying with Queensland Roar; I never wanted to leave.

"Hopefully next season we can build on what we did last year. Frank [Farina] has the team settled on the park and even though we’ve lost a few players, we’ll gain a few good players as well.”

With McCloughan securing his future with the club through to 2010, it was the beginning of a new adventure for Scottish striker Simon Lynch who today parted ways with the club by mutual agreement.

With his contract initially due to expire in June, Queensland Roar CEO Lawrence Oudendyk said the move would allow Lynch to pursue other opportunities.

“Simon Lynch and Queensland Roar today parted ways by terms of mutual agreement and as a result Simon will now be free to pursue other opportunities,” said Oudendyk.

“We obviously thank Simon for his efforts over the last two seasons of the Hyundai A-League and wish him well in all his future endeavors.”
