To see the Roos train in South Africa...

The new Brisbane Roar defender saw his own World Cup dreams wrecked by injury months ago, not that he ever thought he was a sure pick to make Pim Verbeek's final squad.

He is still looking forward to following the team's fortunes though and is confident that the pessimists will be proved wrong.

"I was pretty realistic about my chances of going to the World Cup, I think it would have been a good effort to make the 30 man squad and it may have been unlikely making the final 23 man squad," he told the PFA's official website.

Stefanutto is backing Australia to make a real impact at the tournament.

"I think it is a good group to have they are all really difficult opponents but I think going in as the underdogs suits us and think the players will definitely rise to the challenge," he said.

And while he acknowledges the likes of Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell will be key, Steffanuto is backing one of the lesser known players to shine.

He added: "I hope Josh Kennedy really steps up and I think if he does he can be a real key for the team and cause some trouble."
