It was announced on Monday assistant coach Michael Valkanis would be leaving the club after reports suggested there was tension between the two coaches.

City’s other former assistant Joe Montemurro left the club at the beginning of the month to coach Arsenal Women in England.

And despite the exodus, Joyce was adamant his support would not be weakened.

“There are a lot of good staff at this football club who put in tremendous hours trying to develop the club and the young people here,” Joyce said.

“There are people within the club that can certainly help the club progress.

“Patrick has been up training with us all week, he’s been juggling his jobs. He’s got two or three jobs, but you want that, you want everybody pitching in and helping out, driving the club forward and driving the players forward.”

Joyce also refused to admit Valkanis did not buy into his philosophy.

“Everybody has got their own way, I don’t think there are vast differences,” he said.

“The idea of this City Football Group is to dominate matches, possession and the opposition. I think that’s a clear culture every coach would want to have.

“These things happen in football, I think it’s not uncommon for a manager to bring all his own staff in straight away, nobody likes to lose a job.

“You wish him well for the future and I’m sure he’ll be back in football and play his part. We’re just looking to build a culture here and philosophy where we’re all working towards that.”

City face Newcastle Jets away on Saturday night.
