Melbourne City goal scorer Nick Fitzgerald says coach Warren Joyce's message at half-time in Friday's 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar was to stay composed and the goals with come.
Roar progressed to the second week of the finals where they meet Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night with the win at AAMI Park on Friday night.
City dominated the contest but needed second-half goals from Stefan Mauk and Nick Fitzgerald to claim the victory.
"We had to keep composed," Fitzgerald told Fox Sports. "We were creating most of the chances.
"We'd limited them to one or two shots int he first half. Defensively we were very good.
"Bart (Schenkeveld), at the back, was superb again, he cut out a lot of balls.
"We had to stay composed, we knew the goal was coming."
Fitzgerald said his side were aware of Roar's intentions and insisted City stuck to their gameplan.
"I think Brisbane came out and had a gameplan to sit back, soak up some pressure and hit us on the counter attack," he said.
"I thought we did well. We kept composed and still played our football.
"We created a lot of chances in the first half and got just reward in the second half.
"We got a beautiful goal from Mauky and rolled on from there."
