Hat-trick hero David Trezeguet set the wheels in motion in the 26th minute and a second-half double from substitute Vincenzo Iaquinta guaranteed the three points for the home side.

Trezeguet put the icing atop the cake with two more goals in the last three minutes to take Juve top of the table, despite a consolation goal from Massimo Loviso in stoppage time.

The game started in a rather balanced fashion with both teams trying hard to get their noses in front.

Juve were playing the better football, but Livorno kept trying to attack, however difficult a task it was.

The home side had the better chances and the final touch was the only thing lacking for the Bianconeri, but after Trezeguet's first effort of the game was saved by Marco Amelia, he did not need a second invitation.

Alessandro Del Piero's corner was met by the France international, who nodded in from close range.

The goal unblocked the home side and their domination began. They were unable to double their lead before the break, though, as Fabio Galante defended resolutely for Livorno.

The closest they came was when Galante could not intervene, Del Piero's free-kick bringing a fine save out of Amelia.

Little altered at the start of the second half with Juventus slowly moving up through the gears with a lively Del Piero creating the openings.

However, it was only when the captain left the field for Iaquinta that the goals began to arrive.

Minutes after Livorno's strong penalty claims were turned down, Juventus were awarded a spot-kick for a similar incident at the other end with Alessandro Grandoni tugging Iaquinta's shirt.

Iaquinta stepped up himself to slot the ball past Amelia, who got a touch, but could not prevent the ball crossing the line.

Livorno's heads dropped, and Juve appeared content too, until the next chance presented itself.

Pavel Nedved dribbled in from the left and his shot took a decisive deflection off Iaquinta, who claimed his second and Juve's third goal five minutes from time.

Two minutes later, Trezeguet put his name on the scoresheet for the second time with Iaquinta this time the provider.

Trezeguet completed his hat-trick on the stroke of full-time, getting enough of a touch to Antonio Nocerino's right-wing cross to divert the ball over the line

There was even time for Loviso to score a goal which would have claimed the headlines in any other game, but not this one.

He held off two Juventus defenders before drilling his shot unstoppably past Gianluigi Buffon from 20 yards.

The damage had already been done, though, and not only Livorno, but the rest of Serie A will know about it.
