David Trezeguet scored the first in the 29th minute with his initial strike-partner Vincenzo Iaquinta doubling the lead four minutes before the interval.

Alessandro Del Piero came on for the final 25 minutes and scored within five before turning provider for Marco Marchionni in the 74th minute.

A goal and an assist were not enough for Del Piero, who added another from the penalty spot in stoppage time as he and the Bianconeri set themselves up nicely for next Saturday's big match at the San Siro against AC Milan.

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri surprisingly left Del Piero on the bench with Iaquinta partnering Trezeguet in the attack.

And both got on the scoresheet in the first half.

Iaquinta came close to opening the scoring in the 22nd minute when his low shot was pushed around the post by Federico Agliardi.

That was not the safest option for the Palermo goalkeeper, though, as Juve's greatest threat came from set-pieces, in particular corners.

Mauro Camoranesi set up the opening goal from a corner in the 29th minute.

Nicola Legrottaglie contributed with a header down which Trezeguet, with his back to goal, turned into the net on the volley.

Pavel Nedved should have made it two minutes later when he had the whole goal to aim at as Agliardi went AWOL, but Andrea Barzagli recovered to clear the goalbound shot before it could cross the line.

The second goal did come before the break, though, and it was Juve's other striker Iaquinta who poked the ball in at the second attempt after another dangerous Camoranesi cross.

Del Piero had been waiting patiently on the bench for his chance, and it came with 25 minutes remaining.

He replaced Iaquinta and took over where his team-mate had left off with a goal within minutes of his entry.

It was practically his first touch; a trademark Del Piero free-kick from 25 yards curled around the wall and inch-perfect inside the near post.

Del Piero turned provider four minutes later for Marchionni to grab a fourth.

He was left with only Agliardi to beat after reaching Del Piero's perfectly weighted pass, and although it looked like the chance had been wasted when he delayed his shot, he was merely waiting for the Palermo goalkeeper to go to ground before placing the ball through the resultant gap and into the back of the net.

A penalty in the last minute allowed Del Piero to complete a fruitful 25 minutes for himself, putting away the spot-kick after Nedved was fouled inside the area.

Amauri tested Gianluigi Buffon late on, but the game had already been decided by the most prolific attack in Serie A - a forward line which Milan will be the next to try to tame at the San Siro next weekend.

After a one-year sabbatical, the big derby returns with Juventus showing they are in perfect health and ready to renew their rivalry with the Rossoneri.
