Cahill was not selected by coach Ange Postecoglou in Australia’s 2-2 draw to Thailand to allow him to fully recover from an Achilles injury which kept him out of City’s Round Four 2-1 home win over Adelaide United.

Cahill played a full game in the subsequent 1-0 away loss to Brisbane Roar and managed 86 minutes in last week’s 2-1 over Newcastle Jets.

And with the cracking long range goal scored in the derby in Round Two being Cahill’s only goal in open play, van’t Schip said he was happy with what he brought.

“I think he has (lived up to expectation), maybe looking at a different way as other people, everybody will write and say things,” Van’t Schip said.

“We know what Tim is doing every day here and we’re very happy and we know also, we as a team will get better, improve and in that Tim is a part of it so he will improve as well, so we’re happy with how things are going.

“On the pitch, his experience, leadership and that counts off the pitch, his presence in the dressing room, presence around the boys, he’s very much interested in everything that happens.

“That’s a positive, that’s what he brings with him as a player who has played on a high level everywhere and is still very eager to learn and help other players.

“On top of that he wants form on a high level and win, so that’s what I mean when he brings a lot to the team.”

The Friday night clash against the Wanderers will be Cahill’s first club game in his hometown since he left youth club Sydney United in 1997, however he did feature in City's 4-1 smashing in an FFA Cup quarter-final.

Van’t Schip said his squad healthy excluding Corey Gameiro (ACL - Season) and Nicolas Colazo (Ear) who is expected to return next week against Wellington Phoenix after training this week.

The Wanderers have conceded 13 goals in six games - the most in the A-League this season shared with Perth Glory, however they look dangerous in the front third with Jumpei Kusukami, Mitch Nichols and Brendon Santalab.

Western Sydney is coming off a 3-0 away loss to Victory with coach Tony Popovic stating they were unlucky

It is expected to reach 35 degrees in Sydney tomorrow night and the Dutchman was wary of the attacking third.

He refused to comment on former City players Andrew Redmayne and Jack Clisby.

“I’m not going to talk about players of the other team, I want to talk about our team, I could talk about a team in general… I don’t think it’s for me to talk about players of other teams,” he said.

“They’re going to be up for it in that kind of situation, if I was coach in that kind of situation, I know exactly how things work.

“They’re going to be disappointed, fighting and out there to prove a point, we have to be ready for that, it’s a good footballing team and we’ve seen that against Victory.

“OK, they lost, Victory scored on the counter a few times, it’s a team that can really play good football, if they get certain things right, they’re a team that can finish high.”
