The 38-year-old is expected to hang up his gloves at the end of the season, but admits that circumstances could change.

He said: "You have always got to avoid creating certainties in football.

"Inside, I am sure that this is my last season for FC Bayern, but what happens if, for example, (fellow keeper) Michael Rensing picks up an injury two months before the end of the season?

"Although I would not wish that on him, I would then probably have to play another season."

Kahn retired from international football following the World Cup last year, after making several world-class saves to help Germany finish third.

At the time, he predicted a similarly heroic departure from football altogether, but defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League quarter-final and a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last term was not good enough for him to leave on a high.

This year, though, he feels things could be different.

"I have the chance to say goodbye with titles," he added in the Berliner Morgenpost newspaper.

The Bundesliga, UEFA Cup and German Cup are the three targets he and his Bayern team-mates have set for the coming season.
