FORMER Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has expressed surprise at his former club's current plight but is backing them to bounce back soon.
Bayern have made their worst start to a Bundesliga season in 31 years after letting slip a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 with Bochum on Saturday, leaving them in 11th place with nine points from seven games.
Kahn, 39, hung up his glove this summer. Watching on from the sidelines, he cannot explain why Bayern are stuggling.
"It is surprising because this team is not going through a revolution, it is practically the same team which won the double last season," he said.
"You cannot paint it all negatively, though. Bayern are always a team who can put a series of wins together and then everything goes uphill again."
Kahn called for the club's board to be patient and wait for new coach Jurgen Klinsmann's ideas to hit the right note, but he questioned some of the new coach's decisions, not least his choice of captain.
Kahn wore the captain's armband since Stefan Effenberg moved on in 2002 and Mark van Bommel took over from him in the summer, but the Dutch midfielder has spent three of the last four games on the bench.
"A captain cannot do the job he should do when he is sitting on the bench," added Kahn.
"Mark has been undermined."
Bayern trail the current league leaders Hamburg by seven points and the pressure is mounting on Klinsmann, who was targeted by the home fans at the end of Saturday's match.
