Real Madrid playmaker Kaka has thanked coach Jose Mourinho for standing by him during tough times and knows he has a "debt" to the club.
The Brazilian superstar joined Madrid in 2009 but has struggled to replicate the form he showed at AC Milan since arriving in Spain.
Last season was particularly disappointing - in Mourinho's debut year as coach - as injury and poor form made it a campaign to forget.
But Kaka is already showing signs of improvement in the current season and feels he is in a better place psychologically and physically.
"I think I will succeed in Madrid," he told Real Madrid TV.
"I am happy here and I want to play a decisive role. We must keep improving.
"Last season I was not well physically. Things do not come out sometimes. I felt like a robot on the pitch, it was very predictable, very mechanical.
"Mourinho could have got rid of me but he did the opposite, he supported me and helped me. The president (Florentino Perez) asked me what my problem was here and I told him it was me.
"Mourinho and Florentino Perez told me they wanted me here and I will try to make sure things go well. I have a debt to them and to Real Madrid."
