AC Milan playmaker Kaka is recovering well after undergoing surgery on his left knee in Brazil.
Brazil's national team doctor, Jose Luis Runco, performed the operation on the world player of the year in the presence of Milan doctor Massimiliano Sala at Rio de Janeiro's Pasteur Hospital.
After the surgery, Sala told Milan's website that everything had gone well but it would be a few days before Kaka's recovery time can be estimated.
"Everything went well, just as we expected," he said.
"It was only a small injury, one that he had been suffering from for some time.
"The next few days will be important to see how how Ricky (Kaka) reacts and responds after this arthroscopy."
Runco explained the injury was caused by excessive wear and tear, and warned that the 26-year-old's recovery would not be rushed in order to have him ready for Brazils's upcoming fixtures.
"This meniscus injury was caused by an excess of rotating, running and stopping. It is as uncomfortable as a rock in the shoe," Runco told globoesporte.com.
"His recovery is going to be one step at the time. We are not going to rush the process so he plays for the Selecao."
Kaka is set to be discharged on Saturday to begin physiotherapy rehabilitation work in Sao Paulo.
Initial predictions suggest he will be sidelined for around two weeks, ruling him out of Brazil's upcoming friendlies with Canada and Venezuela and possibly next month's World Cup qualifiers away to Paraguay and at home to Argentina.
