Kamau scored a brace at AAMI Park last week to get City off to a flying start this season with coach Warren Joyce stating post-game he spoke to Kamau at half-time to give him constructive criticism.

Kamau said goal scoring was a key area he would like to improve on from last season adding he took confidence from netting two goals despite feeling he could have done better.

“To be honest I don’t think I played that well,” Kamau admitted Tuesday morning.

“My personal opinion watching the game back, we’ve got a computer in the club where we have our own individual clips. Just watching that back and even my memory of the game.

“I managed to score twice which is good and that will help lift that confidence, but improving on my performance was something that I’ll be focusing on for the next game.

“The two goals are good and something I’ve been working on. Coming into the next game it’s something that gives me confidence.”

Kamau asaid he was enjoying working under Joyce who has vast experience coaching Manchester United’s reserves and Wigan Athletic.

“Warren had positives to take out of the game, he was encouraging and looking at the positives in what we could do better to help ourselves in the game and exploit some of the areas that we could against Brisbane,” he said.

“No matter how you’re playing there’s something you can improve on (at half-time)… it just depends on how the message is relayed, I wouldn’t say he said anything negative.”

Roar coach John Aloisi said his side was unlucky to have lost 2-0 to City last week and Kamau agreed.

City now have the Melbourne Derby at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night with Victory to be boosted by the return of three internationals.

The Big V find themselves on the back foot after falling 1-0 to Sydney FC at home last week.

And Kamau felt there was a real buzz in the lead-up to this game.

“The derbies last year were quite good especially towards the start of the season, there’s a bit more of a hype around it,” Kamau said.

“The league is just starting and everyone is excited, you’re going in, this is the first time you’ll be playing this season. It’s a big game but I think we’re ready for it.”
