J. League champion Kashima Antlers moved within a point of the knockout stage of the Asian Champions League after striker Marquinhos scored twice to record a comfortable 3-0 win over South Korea's Suwon Bluewings in Group G today.
Go Oiwa opened the scoring for the home side before Marquinhos grabbed his first before half-time. The Brazilian sealed a regulation win in the closing stages as Kashima gained revenge for the 4-1 defeat in March.
Kashima now need just a point from their final game against Shanghai Shenhua at Hongkou Stadium to seal their passage to the last 16.
The visitors made a bright start at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, but Kashima opened the scoring with their first chance as Takuya Nozawa crossed for Oiwa to send a glancing header across the face of goal and into the bottom corner after 27 minutes.
And just six minutes later the home side doubled their lead as Mistuo Ogasawara's cross into the area caused havoc and after the Suwon defence failed to clear, Marquinhos bundled the ball over the line after goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae twice failed to smoother the loose ball.
Kashima continued to dominate the game and with 15 minutes remaining Marquinhos sealed the win as he rounded off a swift counter-attack with a deft chip over Lee from the edge of the area.
Marquinhos nearly claimed a hat-trick in stoppage time but rattled the woodwork with an exposed Lee again helpless.
