Kashiwa Reysol 2 Auckland City 0
J.League champions Kashiwa Reysol moved into a quarter-final against Monterrey at the FIFA Club World Cup after beating Auckland City today.
Junya Tanaka and Masato Kudo grabbed first-half goals for the home team to end the Oceanic champions' participation.
Tanaka put Kashiwa ahead after 37 minutes when he took a pass from Wataru Hashimoto before beating two defenders and firing a left-footed effort past Auckland goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley at his near post.
It was 2-0 three minutes later as Kudo reacted first after Hiroki Sakai headed Leandro Domingues' free-kick on to a post.
The New Zealanders poured forward in the second half but could not break down the Kashiwa defence. Dave Mulligan came closest for Auckland but saw his free-kick superbly saved by home keeper Kazushige Kirihata.
Kashiwa will now meet CONCACAF champions Monterrey on Sunday for the right to meet Santos, the champions of South America, in the last four.
The other last-four tie will pit either Asian heavyweights Al-Sadd or African champions Esperance against Barcelona.
