Kazakhstan 1 Azerbaijan 1Ruslan Baltiyev's goal salvaged a point for 10-man Kazakhstan at home to Azerbaijan after defender Maksim Zhalmagambetov was sent off for violent conduct.
The midfielder's goal cancelled out Vugar Nadyrov's first-half strike to leave the Azerbaijan side with one point when they should have had three in the Euro 2008 Group A qualifying fixture.
Bottom of the group Azerbaijan showed their intentions early on with Jeykhun Sultanov testing keeper David Loria from 20 yards, and then Nadyrov followed with a shot from 12 yards that squirmed wide.
The visitors kept up the pressure as Nadyrov then hit the bar from Sultanov's inswinging corner before scoring his country's fourth goal of their qualifying campaign on the half hour mark.
The impressive Sultanov's cross from the right found the striker 12 yards from goal and he placed it in the bottom corner.
Things then went from bad to worse for Kazakhstan when referee Albert Toussaint dismissed Zhalmagambetov just before half-time as the side went in at the interval trailing 1-0.
Azerbaijan continued to show their dominance after half-time.
Nadyrov threatened with a 30-yard strike that Loria could only parry.
Against all the odds, however, Kazakhstan equalised in the 53rd minute.
Nurbol Zhumaskaliyev crossed from the left channel for Baltiyev to turn in an unlikely equaliser from six yards.
A series of substitutions then stifled the flow of the game as a draw looked ominous.
Baltiyev had a chance to win it for Kazakhstan late but fired his free-kick over.
The result has left Kazakhstan sixth in the qualifying campaign, while Azerbaijan climbed off the bottom and were replaced by Armenia.
