Brisbane Roar revealed this week they would enquire about 36-year-old Keane’s services, with the Irishman recently leaving MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy.

It is unclear if Keane would qualify under Football Federation Australia’s guest marquee rule.

Only Melbourne City has utilized the guest marquee position, while Wanderers along with Perth Glory have one marquee spot open.

Central Coast and Newcastle Jets haven’t utilized either marquee spots.

“We’re always open,” Popovic said.

“Whether that’s a marquee, we have room in our cap to bring in more players in January.”

Keane has confirmed he doesn’t want to retire yet despite his age, having scored 10 goals for LA Galaxy in 2016.

He also skippered his country at the European Championships this year where the Republic of Ireland reached the Round of 16.

The veteran would be a drawcard, having played at a World Cup and with several of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool and Inter Milan.

“He’s certainly a player it’s hard not to have a look at, but I’m sure there’s several that are being mentioned,” Popovic said.

“There are more than several that have been put on our desk but obviously Robbie is the one everyone’s talking about at the moment.

“He’s had a fantastic career, he’s a great player and still scoring goals and he’s certainly a player we’d have a look at.”
