New A-League superstar Keisuke Honda says he cannot wait to get started at Melbourne Victory and admitted he never thought he would play in Australia.
Honda, 32, was confirmed as the biggest marquee signing in Victory's history today but was unable to make the press conference announcing his arrival.
However in a pre-recorded interview, he said the deal had been done quickly after the World Cup ended.
"My brother is my agent and told me after the World Cup that Melbourne Victory was interested in me," he revealed today.
"I couldn't believe that because I am Japanese and I never thought I would play in Australia in my career.
"I checked a couple of things - Melbourne Victory is the most successful club in the A-League (over the) last 13 years. I think that's amazing. They became Champions many times, I'm proud of these kind of clubs.
"Also the manager Kevin (Muscat) – he is a really nice guy when I talked with him. He has a big, big passion. I love it.
"That's the reason also why I decided to play with the club."

He added: "I'm so happy to join Melbourne Victory. I really like to do a new challenge. That's me.
"I'm satisfied, I look for playing as (much) as possible."
Honda is due to arrive in Australia next week to join pre-season training.
"I will visit Melbourne on 13th or 14th," he said. "We played Australia for Asian Cup (and) I remember some good things but also, we couldn't win the Cup!
"I won't play (for the) national team but I want to win as a club. I really look forward to playing and winning. I can't wait."
And Honda says he's fresh after the World Cup.
"I visited some countries for meeting my friends," he said. "Also I had a couple of important business meetings. It was like a vacation. So I'm ready."
And he had a message for Victory fans: "Nice to meet you!
"I'm so happy to join the club. I think Melbourne Victory is the best club in Australia. I am honoured. I will make the club win. I have the confidence I will help the team as much as I can.
"I am an ambitious person and I always work my best so let's make it happen. Let's make everything together from now on."
